In 2007, I began my original website, Sonshine's Haven. In 2007, it was turned into a blog and used to keep family updated on my first husband's fight with liver cancer. He passed away November of 2009. We were married for 34+ wonderful years and this journals some of that grief process I've gone through.

I have since remarried another widower, but Mike is missed dearly, and will always be a big part of my life.

At times, all of us will be called to act as witnesses to the suffering of another. We will be unable to affect the outcome physically. Words will fail us. Prayer will seem futile. And yet, the act of bearing witness to someone else's trials is a sacred sorrow that offers and astounding glimpse of eternal joy." by Ginger Garrett

"Being willing to stay with a loved one throughout their travail, can be difficult....YES! But offering yourselves as faithful companions on a dark and dreadful journey can be an unmeasured blessing." (paraphrased by me)

Third Week Update

Mike has done fairly well this week. He has been able to rest well at night which makes a difference in how his daily pain effects him. He has had to use stronger pain medication twice this week because of general body aches and the neuropathy pain he experiences in his feet, but outside of that, he has tried to pace himself using these only as needed. Most times Ibuprofen or Tylenol manage it. Blood counts seem to be good, as is his bilirubin count. The bilirubin count is important because it indicates how well the biliary ducts are draining in his liver, with the stents inserted in the mass.

At work, they have moved Mike's office to the front of the building this week, and that has had the added benefit of limiting the amount of walking for him. Please continue to pray Mike's job will be protected, and for Mike's discernment in dealing with his illness, FMLA and disability.

Also, this coming Thursday (2/28), we begin another cycle of chemotherapy. Please be praying that Mike stays healthy, with so many viruses going around, and that the side effects will be minimal so he can continue to work.

We trust God for all of our needs and for complete healing for Mike. "And everything you ask in prayer, believing you shall receive." Matthew 21:22
