In 2007, I began my original website, Sonshine's Haven. In 2007, it was turned into a blog and used to keep family updated on my first husband's fight with liver cancer. He passed away November of 2009. We were married for 34+ wonderful years and this journals some of that grief process I've gone through.

I have since remarried another widower, but Mike is missed dearly, and will always be a big part of my life.

Doing Well

Mike has been feeling very good the past few days. Outside of the pain in his feet, and wearing out sooner than he would like to, he has been feeling well. This week we have been around the grandsons more, and that always does Mike's heart good.

God's mercies are new every morning.

"Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:21-23

Thank you for praying for Mike. He is kicking this latest virus and feeling much better. He continues to go to physical therapy three times a week for about 2 1/2 hours, and is feeling stronger each day.

Mike spent a little time in his shop this past weekend. With our son and his family moved into their new home, their five pets have now vacated Mike's shop, and he is looking forward to building things again and reloading ammunition. I really believe this outlet will be great therapy for him.

We continue to seek God's wisdom in the days ahead for us. We are still under Cobra insurance coverage with Goody's at the moment, but things will get tricky for us once that ends. We will have insurance we can get, but it is going to be pricey. We will have to get a policy for Mike and a separate policy for myself. This will require us to pay individual deductibles...twice in one year. Not the greatest situation...but better than no insurance at all. We're grateful God continues to provide for us and we continue to trust Him day by day.

We appreciate all of you so much. We feel blessed to have family and friends who care so deeply, and remind us we're in your thoughts and prayers. The weight of all we're facing can become a little heavy some days, but God has brought so many of you into our lives, to remind us of His faithfulness, and your love and steadfast support lifts our burden. You are such a blessing to us!

Mike has been doing fairly well this week, although he has caught a little virus, and can't seem to shake it. It really hasn't slowed him down very much until today. Today he's a little low on energy. We would appreciate your prayers for his body to fight this bug quickly, and get him to feeling better soon.

Mike is doing wonderful! He's feeling stronger everyday. On Saturday, Mike and I cared for our grandsons, while other family helped our son and his family, move into the new home they built. The past 16 months of having them live with us, had to have gone by slowly for them. We're so grateful God worked every detail out for them to accomplish their dream. Thank you so much for your prayers.

"Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigourous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done." Colossians 2:7

Good news! We received a call this afternoon from the oncology nurse letting us know the biopsy report was "fine". The threat of thyroid cancer has been removed. We thought we might receive a call from Mike's oncologist, to possibly give us more information, but he must have felt we had all the news we needed, and he was right. We are tremendously grateful for the good news.

The weekend was pretty difficult for our family waiting for the results of the biopsy. Because of the history of thyroid cancer with Mike's dad, fear threatened to suffocate the breath right out of us at times. But God is greater than our fears, and remains the Rock we cling to.

Thank you once again for holding ground with us and for interceding on our behalf. We feel we may never be able to thank you enough for helping us to stand through all of this. Your love, support and prayers are a constant encouragement to us.

Psalm 3:3 "But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me..."

We did not receive any word on the biopsy today. So we'll likely need to wait until next week to hear anything. Thank you for continuing to pray for us.

Heavenly Protection

We are home from Little Rock. Mike's biopsy went well. He refused any sedation and was able to leave 30 minutes after the procedure. We were told not to expect any results for 24 hours. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Update: The needle biopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning (Thurs) at 7:30 a.m., at Baptist Medical Center. They will NOT be using general anesthesia for this test.

Our news isn't good this evening. We have learned that there is a 2 centimeter nodule on Mike's thyroid that the doctors would like to have biopsied. Our largest concern is how this can be done with Mike's blood pressure not tolerating general anesthesia very well. We don't know if general anesthesia will be necessary to biopsy this. We will know more news tomorrow. Mike is very nervous about having anything done in Little Rock, because of what happened to him last July. We would deeply appreciate your prayers as we try to find the best direction to go in, and for Mike's safety through all of this.

Mike had his ultrasound on his thyroid this afternoon but we were told we likely won't get any results until Wednesday. The oncologist is in town on Tuesday's and Thursday's, so we may learn something then. I'm praying for a good report.

Mike is feeling pretty good. He hasn't had to lay down in the middle of the day which shows me his energy level is up and he's a little stronger. He has spent a little more time alone these past couple of weeks while I have been helping our son and daughter-in-law paint their new home. The kids are hoping to move out of our place, and into their new home, by Valentine's Day weekend. Mike's already dreading not being able to see Drew everyday. He has been Mike's "shot in the arm" the past 1 1/2 years. I promised him we would snatch Drew as often as we can.
